Entrepreneurs - What they don't teach you at school

Entrepreneurs have a unique blueprint that exceeds the boundaries of the traditional norms to study diligently, play little, attend university, get a job, work hard at it, get paid.

True Entrepreneurs are forward thinkers who are proactive and able to make decisions, learn from mistakes and forge ahead with a positive attitude. Through innovation, they carve new pathways in business and they know the importance of constantly improving on their skills and growing through personal development.

Where did this unique "Entrepreneurial" blueprint come from? It certainly wasn't learnt in school. Perhaps it was a role model, somebody in the family or community or a big business icon that inspired the growth to success? The answer is certainly not a constant and different elements apply according to circumstances and the opportunities on offer, none of which were learnt in school.

It is a common occurrence for our youth to be discouraged from being free thinkers in the schooling and academic environment. They are often forced to submit to what is considered to be the norm: "Study diligently, play little, attend university, get a job, work hard, get paid."

Stepping out of the confines of what is considered to be socially acceptable is difficult for adults, let alone teens. Starting a business oftentimes brings with it judgement and the looking glass approach is always there. The naysayers, that somebody waiting in the wings for failure. The constant feeling of doubt, that the business venture may not work and dealing with business challlenges that don't come with textbook answers.

Resilience is a unique skill that is a key indicator of the "Entrepreneurial" blueprint. This is a skill that can easily be learnt by young people if they have a mentor and guide. Entrepreneurs should never underestimate their role in inspiring that one young person in their community.

You could be that one person that provides a young person with the encouragement to pursue their dreams, to live their passions, to create their future with enthusiasm and energy.

Sharing your business experience is a gift that you can give to a young person in your direct community. So let's network towards creating a future generation of business leaders.
