A BforB group is to award a scholarship to a Macclesfield student in a new initiative aimed at fostering business in and around the North East Cheshire town.

A group of business owners and managers meet regularly at Tytherington Golf Club under the BforB (Business for Breakfast) banner to network and pass business leads and referrals.

Members want to pass on their expertise by holding regular seminars for businesses in Macclesfield and the surrounding areas. They plan to use the funds raised to sponsor an Enterprise Scholarship at Macclesfield College.

Steve Bloor, local BforB Director for Macclesfield, said: "Members attend our meetings because they believe the best way to foster new business is through collaboration and referrals.

"We see the hosting of regular business seminars as a perfect fit with that philosophy and raising funds for a student scholarship adds a further dimension to our work.

"Our members have expertise in a wide range of areas including finance, accountancy, legal services, HR, graphic design, insurance, and pension planning- many of the skills needed to achieve business success.

"We will also mentor the scholarship student in a similar way to the TV business dragons."

Talks have been held with Macclesfield College who have agreed to nominate suitable students for the scholarship award.

The award will be used to assist with educational activities such as the purchase of books and study travel.

The successful student will also be encouraged to attend BforB group meetings and to gain experience from the members.

The first seminar will be held on Wednesday 9 October between 9am and 11.30am at Tytherington Golf Club, Dorchester Way, Macclesfield. It includes presentations on topical business subjects including pensions auto-enrolment, employment law changes, and alternative sources of funding for smaller businesses. It will cost £20 to attend with all profits going towards the Business for Breakfast Enterprise Scholarship fund with Macclesfield College.
