Headz Up Business is lending its support to Ian Henery from Ian Henery's Solicitors fundraising efforts to support The Mayor and Mayoress of Walsall (cllr Dennis Anson & Mrs Kathleen Anson) appeal for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.

Ian Henery is the Poet Laureate to The Mayor of Walsall 2012/2013. This was done with the purpose of raising money for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research after the Mayor's only daughter nearly died from cancer of the blood. Ian wrote a collection of poetry which was released by Thynks Publications "Batman Where Are You?". All the proceeds are going to Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research charity via the Mayor`s Appeal. Ian has worked tenaciously to raise the profile of the appeal in his own circles including sharing his poetry and awareness of the cause at numerous public libraries around the Walsall Borough. He has been pleased with the immense support he has received so far. He has gained the permission from the committee of the Sutton Coldfield Scout Group to showcase his charity poetry book within their Scout Gang Show programme. They also offered him opportunities to promote the book to attendees at a performance earlier on this year.

So when Ian Henery approached Headz Up Business to discuss opportunities to further the cause, the first thing that came to mind to Pushpa Alexander was to build on previous success. Headz Up Business have previously organised a successful charity business speed networking event organised for former Mayor of Walsall Garry Perry.

Over the past few years, business speed networking has become very popular. It's origins began with 'speed dating' and was quickly adopted by the business community; it is an enjoyable, and fantastic way for businesses to meet. It relieves people of the stress of introductions and it avoids the awkward moments of finding a way out of a conversation! This type of networking, if you've never experienced it, usually begins with individuals facing one another. There is often a facilitator who times the length of time with each connection, giving everyone notice when to switch turns in providing them an opportunity to talk, before moving to the next individual along the line. There is usually enough time to give the individual opposite a name, company name, few sentences summarising their products and services, and presenting a business card.

Business Speed Networking will not be the only item on the programme for the business morning on the 10th April. This will also be a great opportunity to learn more about Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research. We are delighted that John Purser, Regional Chairman will be in attendance to give a greater insight into blood cancer research. It sounds hard to believe but the research only began in 1960 with very few surviving the cancer up until then. What's even more astonishing is that someone in the UK is told they have a blood cancer every 20 minutes; it is the most common cause of cancer death in teenagers and young adults. Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research is the only UK charity solely dedicated to research into blood cancers. But with thanks to the fantastic research so far, more people are surviving and patients have been given a better quality of life. The life saving research is focused on finding causes, improving diagnosis and treatments and running ground breaking clinical trials for all blood cancer patients. The charity receives no government funding and relies entirely on donations.

The business speed networking event at Walsall Town Hall on Wednesday 10th April will also see many local entrepreneurs come together offering diverse support: Surjit Dhami, Krissy Griiths are amongst some of the poets in attendance together with Claudeth McCleod who has been inspired to write and publish a poem for the charity. Headz Up Business, building on last year's success is delighted to be organising once again The Mayor's charity business speed networking event. Pushpa Alexander, from Headz Up Business, urges everyone to get involved as "this is a brilliant opportunity for business's to generate business with one another. At the same time, we can raise much needed funds for The Mayor of Walsall's chosen charity - Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research". If you are interested in attending or would like further details about the event on Wed 10th April, please visit the Headz Up Business website.
