Networking B2B and/or B2C?

Had a conversation recently about networking - strange that! I was asked why a business who is B2C should come to a B2B event? It made me think......

Surely all B's are also C's and by dismissing a B2B event there are many potential opportunities being missed. If we have an open mind when we actively participate in networking and look at people as people then surely the number of opportunities increases. What people need is the right OPTITUDE - "the ability to look for opportunities for others and yourself" My new word!

What others are saying....

Julia Bramble • Love the word Sean!! I agree - surely a large part of networking is about the people who aren't in the room - ie. the contacts of the people who are busy making connections with each other. Each person brings to the room their own network which they can then use to help those they are physically networking with! And, like you say, you have to be open to opportunity all the time - I made a great contact at a toddler

Chris Menlove-Platt • Totally concur with both of you.

Chris Wood • Yep definitely I have an online retailer that uses LinkedIN even though B2B focused, he can contact suppliers and mix with others in the industry. Plus all people on LinkedIN are potential consumers too, especially he finds in the lead up to Christmas. So yep why not offline for B2Cs at B2B networking events too

John Hawkey • You need to tell people who you are and what you do, and you never know what this might lead to. Anyway, as someone said: "There are no new contacts in the office?" (Sounds like it could have been you Sean!) So you might as well get out there

What do you think?
