City University London, Islington Business Partnership and Islington Chamber of Commerce bring together four inspirational business women to share their thoughts and experiences with budding entrepreneurs, local businesses and students.

Global Entrepreneurship Week (15 - 19 November) highlights and celebrates the role of small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) and individual entrepreneurs in wealth creation for the UK and the world. SMEs are the real life-line of the UK economy, accounting for 99.9% of the UK's 4.8 million private sector enterprises and being responsible for 59.9% of private sector employment and 49% or private sector turnover.

City University London, Islington Business Partnership and Islington Chamber of Commerce are celebrating the Global Entrepreneurship Week by joining forces for a 'Women in Enterprise' evening on the 17 November. The topic for this event could not be more appropriate as the 17 November is the Women's Enterprise Day!

Research shows that the number of female-owned enterprises is growing year on year adding to the vast pool of highly successful small businesses. This is not just a great boost for the economy, but it also serves as an excellent mechanism for women's empowerment. Real Business quotes a 2008 UK government survey of over 1,000 female entrepreneurs, whose findings show that 78% gained greater independence and 66% have enjoyed increased confidence.

Four female speakers taking part in the 'Women in Enterprise' event - Monika Slowikowska of Sunrise Corporation Ltd, Bea Vo of Bea's of Bloomsbury, Heather Wilkinson of Striding Out and Jacky O'Leary of N1 Creative - are successful entrepreneurs operating in four different industries from construction to business coaching. They will talk frankly about their entrepreneurial journeys, describe the challenges and successes that they have encountered on the way, and offer practical tips and experience that may be useful to budding entrepreneurs.

With over one hundred and fifty guests registered to attend the event, it will be a great inspiration for those individuals who are working towards setting up a business and need insight and encouragement. Those who are already in business will, undoubtedly, hear useful advice that can help them develop and grow their own enterprises.
