It is with great pride that the Islington Chamber of Commerce announces that Ronke Lawal has been chosen as one of the 400 women of the year by the Women of the Year foundation through her work at the chamber. The Women of the Year annual lunch recognises the achievements of business and professional women from across the UK and Europe. Lady Lothian was one of the three women who founded Women of the Year Lunch and Assembly in 1955 and its nominating council include Floella Benjamin OBE , Glenys Kinnock MEP and Joan Armatrading MBE.

The Islington Chamber celebrated its 80th birthday in 2009 and is one of the few independent Borough Chambers left in London. The Chamber has always been keen to retain its local identity and be the voice of local business, providing representatives to a number of key borough wide consultative bodies. The chamber has develop its core offering as a resource to local businesses providing them with relevant networking opportunities at events which aim to build strong business relationships. In these challenging economic times all organisations have to adapt to survive, the Chamber is no different and has drawn up an active business plan to ensure it reaches its 85th birthday which Ronke has been instrumental in putting into place.

Ronke Lawal , "Seeing the changes in the chamber in just under 9 months has been exhilarating. So many people who have known the chamber or worked with the chamber have commented on the new level of vibrancy that we're developing. Every time a new member signs up based on the belief they have in the chamber; the confidence they have that the chamber is worth something makes everything up to this point worth it. I am honoured and humbled by this stamp of approval but I am aware that there is still a long way to go in ensuring the Islington Chamber of commerce reaches its full potential."
