A new project that tackles business waste in the Borough has been launched by the Islington Chamber of Commerce was launched in January 2010.
The project, which is funded by the Islington Strategic Partnership and supported by Voluntary Action Islington, will look to increase awareness of recycling and reuse in the borough and provide free independent support to businesses looking to recycle their waste.
The service is tailored to meet the needs of each individual business, social enterprise or charity, providing advice and guidance and matching them to suitable recycling services. The scheme will be headed up by the Islington Chamber of Commerce's new Project Officer, Clare Matheson.
Clare has spent the last 7 years in the waste management industry and brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and contacts to the post. Her personal aim is to demonstrate to companies that recycling different materials does not have to cost them the earth, and that becoming more environmentally conscious can bring additional benefits.
Clare said 'As Project Officer my aim will be to work with companies in the borough to look at what their waste streams are, what they currently recycle and what they want to recycle, whilst taking into account issues such as onsite waste storage space and cost.'
'It's vital to look at what's realistic and to help them to achieve this so that we can increase Islington's recycling rates and make recycling easier and more cost effective for businesses'. The Chamber is excited about this initiative and has been well received throughout the borough so far.
The project will be hosting a launch event at Sadler's Well on March 10th 2010.
