2010 will be an exciting year of possibilities for the Islington Chamber of commerce as we announce the appointment of our new Chief Executive - Ronke Lawal.

Ronke joins the Chamber in early January after spending 5 years running her own business as an advisor to small businesses, mainly on business development, marketing, events and PR.

With a good knowledge of the Borough, having studied for her A levels at City and Islington College she will be instigating a number of exciting new changes which will strengthen its place as an esteemed Business Membership organisation. With her passion for business, Ronke has a vision for growth and revitalisation for the Chamber that will see it reach new heights in 2010.

Islington Chamber celebrated its 80th birthday in 2009 and is one of the few independent Borough Chambers left in London. The Chamber has always been keen to retain its local identity and be the voice of local business, providing representatives to a number of key borough wide consultative bodies. The chamber will develop its core offering as a resource to local businesses providing them with relevant networking opportunities at events which aim to build strong business relationships. In these challenging economic times all organisations have to adapt to survive, the Chamber is no different and has drawn up an active business plan to ensure it reaches its 85th birthday which Ronke will be instrumental in putting into place.

To start the new decade, as well as a new CEO, the chamber also has a new office at 222 Upper Street. Over the last decade Islington has undergone a great deal of change, and the Chamber has been actively involved in some of the big local events or issues such as controlled parking, The Arsenal redevelopment, The Islington Festival and the Angel BID. As part of Islington's enthusiasm to encourage business growth and entrepreneurship, the council Leader, Terry Stacy has welcomed the ICC into the Municipal Building. Not only will does this give the chamber access to more council support but it is also able to work even more closely with the Islington Business Partnership, further enhancing our member benefits.

Leader of the council Terry Stacy JP said: "We are thrilled to continue to support the work of Islington Chamber of Commerce and welcome them into our building. The Chamber is an essential part of our local business community and we want to work even more closely over the coming months."
