Networking Group Profile: Aspiring Business Women

How long has the organisation been running events?

We are approaching our 1 year anniversary.

Where do you run your events and how frequently?

Aspiring Business Women run two networking and business development meetings each month in Nottingham, Derby, Leicestershire and East Notts. We will be launching imminently in North Notts too!

Briefly describe your events?

The Aspiring Business Women events are varied with their content but consistent with a friendly and informal atmosphere. We hold monthly morning Power Hours, usually with a guest speaker who are professional’s in their field. We aim to cover all area’s of business development in these meetings for our members and guests, but as many of our attendee’s are self-employed, we aim to produce a non-corporate ‘feel’. In the past we have covered topics such as Social Media and how to use it to push your business forward, being an effective Networker, Marketing for your business, Goal setting and Time Management. Usually tea and coffee are provided free of charge.

We also hold monthly evening events in each of the 4 areas around the East Midlands, and again these are varied depending on the Aspiring Business Women ‘theme’ of the month. In the past we have held a fun business focussed speed networking events, evenings with inspiring and motivational keynote speakers such as Sharon Wright (winner with arguably the most successful pitch appearing on T.V’s The Dragon’s Den), and Adam Corbally (self-starter, motivational runner up on T.V’s The Apprentice).

What do you think makes your events different?

Our members and guests of Aspiring Business Women frequently tell us how relaxed and effective the meetings are due to the friendly and inclusive environment we create. We listen to our members needs and want’s to push their businesses forward, and we aim to provide this in any way we possibly can. We seek to support all women in business, not just the self-employed, and so the opportunities for our members will always be limitless if they network effectively.

What kinds of businesses attend your events?

Our Aspiring Business Women members and guests run, and are involved in businesses so varied it would be easier to say that there is not an industry that is not covered. From Beauty to Law, Social Media experts to Network Marketing representatives, West End stage performers to Market Traders! We look to support, refer and effectively network with all women in business.

What is your top tip for people attending your events?

To get the best out of an Aspiring Business Women event, you should be yourself, be willing to support and encourage other ladies (because what goes around, comes around) and arrive prepared with a positive attitude and a smile – smiles are contagious!
