What is your business called?

The Write Provider Ltd

Briefly describe what your business does?

We produce website copy and provide content marketing services.

Which networking group(s) do you attend?

Bridgend Business Forum’s Speed Networking, 4Networking events

How often do you attend networking events?

Less than I’d like, but one per month is about right. When my business was in the first couple of months of operation, I probably attended 2 or more each month.

How much of your business is directly or indirectly derived from attending business networking events?

To put a number on the amount would be difficult, but I always try to secure at least one new client from each event. As I have slowed down and I have more than enough clients to keep the business busy, I still attend events because I generally find something experience, which doesn’t always include new clients. For instance, I have met funding partners that have helped grow my staffing numbers and that is something I had no intention of doing, but more staff with funding to help with wages has allowed me to cater for more clients.

What format of networking event do you most enjoy?

I like the Speed networking events because I’m generally a shy person who does not mingle naturally, but the speed networking events are no-nonsense pitching and it’s a great way to burn an hour or two.

What do you feel you gain from attending networking events?

Two things – Knowledge and exposure. Local events are great for getting your face to a business and regardless of my plans to conquer the world with copy, I welcome the opportunity learn about local businesses and for me to educate those businesses about my services.

What is your top networking tip?

Like the Greek god Nike said, "Just do it!" Most people dread the idea of ‘networking’ because it has a vulgar image of people shamelessly pitching their product and to be honest, that’s exactly what some of the events are like, but I quickly realised it is not as bad an experience as I first thought. Also, take lots of business cards.
