Networker Profile: Colin McKeand

In the first of our features profiling business networkers across the UK, I spoke to Colin McKeand in Edinburgh. Colin is a very well known face on the networking scene in Central Scotland so was the obvious candidate to kick off our new section!

What is your business called?

Nutri - Tox

Briefly describe what your business does?

I help people with less stress, better sleep, more energy and an ideal weight. We also help companies both large and small to achieve a healthier, happier and better performing workforce leading to less sickness absence and healthy profits.

Which networking group(s) do you attend and how often?

It’s a big list; suffice to say that I can be found attending events and meetings run by various networking organisations anytime from early morning until late evening. Every week is different but I will be attending something, anywhere between 2 – 6 times per week.

How much of your business is directly or indirectly derived from attending business networking events?

It’s important to track your networking activities. Around three quarters of our turnover can be traced directly and indirectly to this form of marketing.

What format of networking event do you most enjoy?

I actually enjoy all types of networking from the very structured to the very informal. If put on the spot it would be informal, where there is no agenda or pitches, and you just mingle and chat.

What do you feel you gain from attending networking events?

Apart from sales I have gained many other valuable things such as good suppliers, peer support, business information, enhanced reputation, collaborations and even good friends.

What is your top networking tip?

Never ever, ever prejudge or dismiss anyone you meet. Someone did it with me many years ago, and they missed out on their dream referral into a large corporate.
